Update on Shooting on Fort Hood: As you all know by now we had
a tragic shooting here at Fort Hood, 13 dead and 30 wounded. We
want to thank everyone who has called asking about our son in law
Todd who is a manager of base housing. Fort Hood shut down all communications
which included cell phones. Todd was able to text message Shannon
and let her know he was safe and locked down in his office. We also
want to thank everyone who has called and volunteered to come to
Temple and Killeen if we need them to serve on our crisis response
team. We can not stress the importance of crisis and disaster intervention
training for chaplains. We can all be assured we will see more tragedies
like this in the future, next time it might be in your community.
We must also always remember the first responders in tragedies such
as this. Law Enforcement Officers, Emergency Services Personnel,
Dispatchers, Firefighters and many others. First Responders most
of the time are the first ones on the scene and have to deal with
the situation no matter how bad it may be. Please keep our troops,
their families and first responders in your prayers. The chaplain's
needs at times like this always seem to be forgotten; crisis response
chaplains can become secondary victims themselves. Being prepared
is essential in today's world! Update: Chaplain Bryan Davis, Chaplain
Ann Brown and Chaplain Thomas People have just been sent to Fort
Hood as this is being written. Other Team members are still on standby
for the time being. In God We Trust - Chaplain Don Gibson, Chaplain
Bruce Francis, Chaplain Ann Brown, Chaplain Shannon Hess

I have finished with these plans. I was just certified in Family Life
Ministry from Nazarene CLT. Please see the attached. I continue to

Chaplain
Ronald Hartsfield Checking in from Florida: Chappy It is great
to get a chance to say hi. I hope things are well for you as the winter
months quickly approach. I am very excited as we hit our target early
this year of being able to put 1000 bibles into the hands of brothers
and sisters in need. We here at od ministries have been truly blessed
by our move to central Florida in the Orlando area. We are able to
reach out to so many more than we were in wetumpka ,al. I take volunteers
with me every Monday and Thursday and we feed those without in downtown
Orlando. We are sponsoring a few families for thanksgiving this year
so they may have a warm dinner and fellowship. We are working on a
clothing and blanket drive coming up in the next couple weeks so we
can get some of our homeless prepared for winter. We are growing with
ideas and God has been blessing my company with the funds to do these
things weekly. We have been able to do these things without any outside
monetary help. What a blessing. If any other chaplains need bibles
"Lifeway Christian Book Store" has some great pocket bibles
usually less that a dollar each. I don't know if you like promoting
any one company so I figured I would let you pass it on if you chose
to. Chappy I just want to say thank you for backing od ministries
and myself and giving us the chance to give to those in need. If you
need anything or just want to chat give me a call sometime. Our web
site is up but not finished yet www.odministries.com.
Hopefully soon. Thanks again. Sr. Chaplain Ronald H Hartsfield
Gold
Chaplain Collar Crosses: Many chaplains and ministers use these
crosses for different reasons. Ministers wear them on their lapel,
military, fire and law enforcement chaplains wear them on their collars.
Chaplains who wear them on their black ball caps when working in the
field. They are also very valuable to the chaplain working the streets
or doing hospital and nursing home visitations. They let law enforcement,
Sheriffs Department, hospital security or first responders know who
you are and that you are there for a reason. Click
here to view the crosses! We have also added by request from members
a new emergency response chaplain on call dash card.
Special
Interest for members who are Texas Disabled Veterans: There are
a lot of disabled veterans serving as chaplains within Chaplain Fellowship,
we thought this should be posted for them. New Homestead Exemption
for Texas Disabled Veterans. Texas voters overwhelmingly approved
Proposition 9 amending the Texas Constitution to authorize the Legislature
to exempt all or part of the residence homesteads of disabled veterans
from ad valorem taxation and changing the amounts of the existing
exemption from ad valorem taxation to which a disabled veteran was
entitled. Because the Constitutional amendment only authorized the
100 percent residence homestead exemption, enabling legislation was
required. The Regular Session of the 81st Legislature enacted House
Bill 3613 by Rep. John Otto. HB 3613 restates the Constitutional partial
exemption amounts in Property Tax Code Section 11.22 and adds Property
Tax Code Section 11.131 that creates a new exemption that provides
a 100 percent exemption of the appraised value of certain veterans
residence homesteads. The bill became effective on June 19, 2009.

Chaplain
Carl Hagwood checking in from Afghanistan: There has been a lot
of transition for me since our deployment. After being in Kuwait for
two months, I had to go home on emergency leave. I tried to call,
and left a message. I hope you, Tina and your children are well. When
I returned to Kuwait, I had two days to pack and ship to Afghanistan.
I serve as the garrison chaplain here at the HQ of Afghanistan. I
oversee the 3 worship services on Sunday & Bible studies that
occur on a weekly basis. I provide the overall pastoral care for all
of the military and civilian personnel. Since our UMT arrived here
on 9 August 2009, I have conducted 94 counseling sessions during the
23 days from 9 to 31 August. A typical counseling session will range
between 15 to 30 minutes. Therefore, there have been between 23.5
to 32.9 contact hours during this 23 day period. I have learned to
appreciate the simplest of things. Even sleeping in the tent and having
to walk outside longer distances to the restroom and showers. The
food is good! It is cooler than Kuwait, but we are at 6,000 feet.
Continue to keep my assistant and I in your prayers. Pray for Kabul,
Afghanistan that we can be a witness and demonstrate the presence
of God in a very challenging environment. Blessings & Prayers,

Anger Management Skill Training Certification: Folks
Anger & Stress Management is a serious concern to professionals
in Anger Management intervention. CFMI
has been approved by the Bell and Lampasas county departments of probation
to provide court ordered anger management classes to offender. CFMI
has also been approved as an continuing education provider for the
follow agencies. The Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners, The
Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors and the
Texas State Board of Examiners of Marriage and Family Therapists.
There are no laws regulating the provision of Anger Management Intervention.
Consequently judges have few informed guidelines to use when sentencing
defendants to Anger Management classes. One unintended consequence
of the absence of state or county standards is the tendency to refer
defendants to domestic violence batters' programs. These programs,
by law, are defined exclusively to address issues related to violence
in intimate relationships. Defendants who are convicted of road rage,
simple battery, or threats are unlikely to gain anything from such
programs. Furthermore, such a mixture tends to undermine the effectiveness
of domestic violence programs, which are designed to stop violence
against women and children.
CFMI
will be launching the CFMI Anger Management Skills Training Certification
program for CFMI members in good standing only in September 2009,
get your name on the list if you intend on getting your certification
in Anger Management Skills Training. This certification course will
be offered as a home study certification course. The courts are
back logged with cases and need good Anger Management Facilitators
to help them with these cases. This is not faith based folks, it
is a secular certification that can be used in conjunction with
faith based programs or you can start a new profession as an Anger
Management Facilitator in the area you live in.
The
following CFMI members are certified Anger Management Facilitators.
Chaplain Don Gibson, Chaplain Ernest Thompson, Chaplain Kristin
Neal, Chaplain Ted Bentley, Chaplain Shannon Hess, Chaplain Ann
Brown, Chaplain Lynn Brown, Chaplain Steve Neatherlin and Chaplain
Brent Pop. Every quarter one member in good standing will be offered
this training free on a scholarship. Members must be in good standing
in order to be considered. This is not a scholarship that members
can apply for, members who receive this scholarship will be chosen
at random. Remember folks that anger is one letter away from danger!
